Caring For Your Houseplants

 

Here are a few things you need to consider when caring for your houseplants.

 

1. Feeding

Feed your plants during their most active growth period. You can mix a slow release fertilizer with your compost or potting soil. Flowering plants need more phosphorus and foliage plants need higher nitrogen content.

2. Humidity.

Some varieties of houseplants thrive in a humid environment. You can group plants together to create a micro climate and then spray them with a menace to of water once or twice a day during high temperatures.

3. Lighting

do some research on what your plants need for light. Some plants like spider plants can be placed near a window or somewhere that does not get direct sunlight spider plants like semi-shade. Aspidistra and Sanseveria can be placed in darker parts of your room, because they require no sun.

4. Re-potting.

Some plants become root bound and need to be re-plotted in order to thrive. Others don't do well, if their roots are disturbed. Turn your plant upside down On the pot to release a plan and checked the roots. If you have a solid wall of roots on all sides you need to repot your plant. When roots grow out of the pot repot the plan or cut them off.

5. Temperature.

Houseplants do best in moderate temperatures, they can survive in warm or cool temperatures. Houseplants don't do well in drastic fluctuations of the temperature. Keep plants that like warm conditions away from your air conditioner in the summer.

6. Watering

check your plans for moisture stick your finger in the soil to first joint. Do not water if the soil feels damp. People kill their plants, more often than not by over watering.
